Title: Children of Lilith
Pitch Choice and Concept
I will be pitching a 1 minute 2D animated cutscene, within the cutscene the main protagonist Eva will encounter the stranger a rogue with ambiguous motives who saves her from getting killed by a demon. The story takes place within a contemporary fantasy world, which combines the medieval fantasy architecture, technology and styling with that of the 21st century (not to be confused with steampunk which combines 19th century industrial with modern day). The game fits into the genre of an RPG beat 'em up, similar to that of Dragons Crown and Final Fight, however throughout the game the player will gather more characters for there party, with each character providing certain abilities and skills that they can combo with other characters.
Within the scene there are two characters Eva and the Stranger, These are the two characters I will be be designing for my project. Within the scene itself there is only one location however within the entirety of the story there is multiple so I will be designing the indoor hallways of the academy, the streets of the city where Eva encounters the strangers, and the exterior of the academy.
My target audience for this project are gamers between the age of 16-25, the gender isn't specified however majority of cast is female which may be more appealing towards woman/girls. Despite have a specified target audience gamers who miss old school Beat 'em ups and enjoy indie games might like a game like this.
Brief Story of the game
Eva, a young demon hunter in training believes that she is ready for fieldwork much to dismay of her master Airini who believes she is far from ready to take on a demon. Under the guise of darkness Eva sneaks out of the academy that has trained and prepared her. Ready to face a demon and prove to her master that she is ready, however she is forcefully stopped by a masked individual who is prepared to tell her the unknown truth, that the academy wishes to remain hidden.
Mood Board
Within this moodbaord I wanted to showcase the kind of setting that my world will be set in, a contemporary fantasy Style tests
Above are some rough style tests of what I would like the game to look like. A painterly and expressive style, that's heavily stylize. The first two images are early drafts of two of the characters within my game, because I want the game to be somewhat colorful I'll be developing these characters throughout my assignment to hopefully make some more appealing designs.
Inspirations
Mirey
Mirey is a Russian concept artist who mainly works on mobile games and native Russian projects. What drew me to there work was how they designed characters using shape and color. Mikey's work is largely stylized which allows for a lot more creative freedom when designing characters as they aren't bound by the limitations of reality. In a lot of stylized work accentuating certain shapes within a characters design can help the viewer identify the kind of personality and traits that character will have. I also love the way Mirey uses color, within there work they will often use colors within the background on the figure which help the figure within the scene feel like they belong there rather than feeling like they've just been placed within a foreign environment.
Mirey also has a YouTube channel full of speedpaint's and noticed that they typically only use 1-3 layers one layer for background and one for each figure within the scene, while they do use line art it is only used as a guide that is eventually painted over. Relying simply on the transfer opacity on the brush helps Mirey achieve a painterly look that I would like to strive for in my work.
Hibaneim

Hibaneiam's is a character and environment artist who works predominantly on MMO's and is most known for his work on Dragon nest as an environment artist. Within a lot of my work I often neglect backgrounds and don't often draw many, so I wanted an artist model that specialized in backgrounds that weren't necessarily realistic and Hibaneiam's work fit into that perfectly. Hibaneiam's work is beautifully stylized with uses of bright contrast between colors such as yellows and purples browns an reds to make backgrounds feel as if people are living within this world. Often within his work characters are placed within these backgrounds to give a sense of space to the work, to see how the character or people within this world would live and interact with the environment.
Software
I will be using Photoshop CC to complete my project. I have chosen Photoshop as many game, animation and film studios use Photoshop for concept art and design, and because I am most familiar with the software and want to improve that familiarity. Photoshop is the best choice for my project as it allows for so many editing options particularly with the brushes photoshop allows for a lot of editing to adjust density, spacing, width and jitter, there are also a lot of options to edit an image in post such as the
