Reflection

 Final reflection I’ve never really done an animatic before or any kinds of animation before so this overall process was very new to me, however one thing is very clear to me  next time I will definitely not have as much dialogue as I had in this animatic. Figuring out things such as pacing and the flow of the story is largely affected by the timing of the dialogue, because I had such large chunks of dialogue I had to cut a lot of it out which meant that I had to readjust a lot of my storyboard, thankfully I’m actually quite happy with how things turned out given my inexperience and that I rarely do any line art so throughout the animatic my lines are fairly shaky however I do think it’s still readable.  Sound was also a bigger task than I originally fore-sore. I originally thought it would be quite easy to source some sound effects which isn’t necessarily the problem but finding the right ones that fir within the story. The sound effects and Audio I used

  Audio Resources Below is a list of all the audio I used for my animation not including the voice acting, which was provided by my two sisters. Voice acting + sound effects + Feedback

I have finalized all the sound effects I am using and will upload references for them in a later post. I found it difficult to find a sound effect for the bonk scene, where Awarini hits Eva on the head with her sword originally it sounded more like a slash, of metal slicing through flesh so I will definitely use it just as a placeholder for now.  Because my storyboard is very dialogue heavy I've had to cut down a lot of dialogue and managed to cut it down so the animatic is now below 1.30minutes, it now sits at 1.23 (not including the credit sequence) and I plan to keep it that way. I've finally recorded dialogue for my sequence and placed it throughout the timeline, however I think some of the dialogue may need to be re-recorded as with Awarini, my sister who played her there was some buzzing in the background and her lines were very flat, and  given the scene which is an "intense" action scene it felt very out of place. Eva's lines don't need to be re-record...

Maya Animatic

Translating my storyboard to Maya was something that was pretty straightforward for me to do as I've previously had experience with Maya, however one thing I struggled with was whether I should include the storyboard in its entirety. Obviously I couldn't include the whole 100+ storyboard so I instead opted for the cut down version however even then it would've ran for 2 minutes so I did my best to cut it down to the minute mark and make sense and stopped the animatic at the scene where Eva is just about to get eaten by the monster. So within the animatic the second character, the stranger isn't seen at all. Spoopy monster OwO Eva looking at the city

Book design

 While I have planned the layout of my book I needed to plan out my design, so to add some cohesion within my project I decided on replicating the black, white and pink color scheme I add used within my proposal. I feel that these colors stand out really well and contrast good aswell, so it feels right to reuse them again.

Final hallway design

  The final hallway design. I wanted to add a lot of details within the environment but not to cluttered at the same time. I used Hibaniem's questionable shop concept work as a reference when creating the lighting on the pillars. I wanted the light to just slightly illuminate the halls creating a dark and eerie environment 

Planning the book layout

 Looking at all the content I have the number of pages I'll have to have is around 16 and I've even had to cut some things down to fit it all in. Originally I had planned on the storyboards only taking up 2 pages however after cutting the thumbnail sketches in half I still had enough to fill up 3 pages so I had to do some moving around. Overall I'm pretty content with the layout and have included two pages at the back with some concept drawings that didn't make the final cut and some little extra things. 

The cover

One of the things that are often within video games are alternate costume, often unlocked at the very end of the game or unlocked by the player by completing a certain perquisites like finding a certain amount of secrets or beating the game on a high difficulty. This was somewhat my idea for the cover and the back cover which features the main characters in kimonos holding a flower, these kimonos are simply costumes that could be unlocked by the player and I wanted them to be holding a flower specifically a white lily which represents innocence. Eva's lily is clean white representing she is ignorant and overall had a pretty shelter upbringing filled with propaganda while her The strangers is a white lily tainted by red blood representing that his life is a hard contrast to Eva's, he is aware of the truth and the realities of this cruel world.
