Storyboarding

Poster criticism -Adjust the color of the logline, its hard to read. Maybe making the color a green to contrast with the brown. -The rating should be a little smaller and maybe the color should be adjusted as the red is a bit to much. When I get home after class I will adjust these in my poster. Homework Storyboard 12 key shots of script.

Logline and project planning

Creating a Logline  A logline is a brief summary of the story that hooks in the reader and describes the central conflict with the story. Below is a logline that I cam up with for the game I will be creating artwork for in my digital project. On the cusp of death Eva is saved by a mysterious stranger she finds herself entering a conspiracy she never wanted to be apart off. I think this logline describes the game perfectly and the events leading up to the conflict, it clearly states the main character and hints that they are getting tangled up in something conspiratorial whether that be political, social or a physical the viewer is engaged to find out. Planning and character Bios/Locations The two characters I will be creating are Eva and the stranger who saves Eva from a demon. While Evas name is known the strangers will remain unknown. The locations I will be creating are the interior of the academy where Eva lives and studies, the outside of the academy and the interior cit...

Cover Art

Image
Below are some of the thumbnail sketches I've done deciding on what I want my poster to look like. When designing my poster I thought about what kind of message am I sending with my Animatic? Who are the characters? and what I can do to create some tension and intrigue, that when someone sees this poster they're gonna be interested and engaged.  When looking at a lot of posters and cover art for comics, video games and movies just feature the character in an action pose or particularly with comics the character might be doing something within a scene or the artwork might be heavily stylized in comparison to the actual art within the comic.  Within my designs I wanted to showcase what the story is and what its about and the character so within these thumbnail sketches I choose to to further develop and add some color to and refine a bit more. The first one was just a basic cover of the character sitting a very traditional cover for a cover/poster. Within the poster it sh...

Finalizing Proposal

Image
The Digital proposal is due this Friday at 5:00pm. Today I began finalizing my proposal in photoshop to make it look pretty and appealing. I still have some small cosmetic details to add such as adding in some of my style tests and images on the pages so people have a visual to look to when they're reading all the information. Below are some example of what the proposal will look like. Some of the pages look quite empty so I will be adding images to make it more interesting.

Scriptwriting

Image
 1. Explore genre styles and the structure of short film plots Continue developing your story from Step Outline to formatted script 2. Assess standard screenwriting and storyboarding formats Learn to use Celtx software for screenwriting I've never written a script before so this whole process is very new to me however I felt that the format of my step outline made things a lot easier when formatting it into Celtx, the software we are using to create our scripts. At this stage I think I've completed my script however I may need to fix up some small aspects such as grammar and maybe let other people have a read through to see how it reads without just me looking at it.  Once I've finished the script I might need to think about shortening some parts as at this point it might run just under 2 minutes which is to long for a 1 minute animation so I will try to aim for around 1:20 anything above 1:30 is way to over the time.

Step Outline

Identified the main character/protagonist  ✔️ Identified the ‘conflict’ that the protagonist must overcome ✔️ Identified how they change/their character’s arc ✔️ identified the 3 acts of your story ✔️ You wrote a brief outline of the story ✔️ Main Character Eva is the main protagonist. Awarini is the side character. Characters arc Eva begins the story as cocky with a sense of grandeur, that her skill is superior than that of all her classmates and even her master. Awarini her master give her a reality check by brutally defeating her and berating Eva for her inflated ego telling her that if she must take her training seriously as if she was to confront  a demon she would surely be killed. Eva has never seen her master act like this before which makes her take things a little seriously. Conflict Character  vs Character - The physical conflict in the story is the fight between Eva and Awarini. As Eva tries to prove herself as an equal to her ma...

1 min 2D Animated cutscene Sources mood board - Dragon Crown - character - location -Dragon Nest  -DMC 1 concept art -DMC 3 concept art -DMC 5 -Weapon concept art -Attack on titan - Locations Video game, RPG Beat 'em up.  Title: Children of Lilith Pitch Choice and Concept I will be pitching a 1 minute 2D animated cutscene, within the cutscene the main protagonist  Eva will encounter the stranger a rogue with ambiguous motives who saves her from getting killed by a demon. The story takes place within a contemporary fantasy world, which combines the medieval fantasy architecture, technology  and styling with that of the 21st century (not to be confused with steampunk which combines 19th century industrial with modern day). The game fits into the genre of an RPG beat 'em up, similar to that of Dragons Crown and Final Fight, however throughout the game the player will gather more characters for there party, with each character pro...

Final treatment

Image
Final treatment Logline:  Over-confident and irresponsible, Eva fails to to see the dangers within each situation, this maybe the last chance she has to learn. Eva fails to the dangers of her world, much to the dismay of her master this maybe the final chance she has to learn. Eva fails to take anything seriously, this maybe her final chance to learn before she  Eva never takes her training seriously, this lesson will swiftly prove her philosophy wrong.  Final logline  Laziness breeds idleness, and in this world idleness breeds death, all demon slayers are taught this however one still has failed to abide by this law. Conflict: Character vs character Three act Structure Act 1 - Training is about to start and Eva is barely prepared, much to the dismay of her master. Eva is over confident and eager to prove to her master that she is ready to go out into the field and all this training is just a waste of time. Act 2 - Eva and her master begin to duel, while Eva's s...

Logo design + Doodling

Image
Succu-lade Today we were tasked with creating a logo for a lemonade company that uses succulents/cactuses to make its beverage. Within my draft designs I wanted to feature the ingredients of the drink as much as possible to give the viewer an idea on what kind of drink it is. I really like the bottom right design, however I realize that in the early draft it doesn't look to impressive and others have said the prefer the top left. I just think the circle design is a little generic. While I have some idea for what kind of color I will be using its not final at the moment as I'm thinking of changing to some more vibrant colors.  Random doodles While I plan on finishing the logo at home I spent some of my time doodling  and getting use to the tablets .

Studying Genre and story structure

A tale of momentum and Inertia Act 1 - Protag is moving rocks Act2 - Rock starts moving towards town, protag attempts to stop Act3 - Town attack, he lets go of the rock Further developing the stores and characters Eva - Lazy, over confident and eager to impress. Eva attempts to find the humor in most situations however often not realizing the gravity of the situation often leaves those around her with a bitter taste in their mouths. While her skill in combat is impressive and maybe even rivals her master, her attitude towards training and her overall dependence on weapons leaves her defenseless when she's ever disarmed. Eva must learn to be humble and depend on herself rather than using the weapons to fight for her she must instead use them as an extension of herself. Her over confident nature stems from her own insecurities she wants to impress those around her, she believes she was born gifted there's no point in training as she's naturally gifted at using firearms and...

Animatic story rough

Image
Animatic Story Draft The story that I plan on using for my animatic is one that I was originally going to use in 2019 for my comic work in drawing 2 however changed my mind at the last minute. For the comic I was going to open with a small fight scene between the protagonist Eva and her teacher showcasing the dynamic and personality of the two characters showcasing Eva as lazy and arrogant, her teacher as controlled and serious. Because I did not end up using this idea for a previous class I would like to continue with this project in my other classes including storyboarding, animating this scene in particular. Below are some designs I done in 2019 of the main character that I would need to translate into into a more simplistic design to suit animation. Story Eva is getting ready for training by lying around lazily much to the dismay of her teacher who demands that she get into a fighting stance, cockily Eva thinks she doesn't need more training and is ready to go out to the field ...

Maya

Image
Today we experimented in Maya and learned some of the very basics. Maya hotkeys  The last time I used Maya was back in 2019 so while I remember a little bit about Maya, however have forgotten a lot since I used it. I started with making something basic so I though it would be fun to make a coffin. Originally it looked quite flat and didn't have any of the ridges on the front that are seen on the final, to give it more details added more vertex's onto the face of the object so I could then extend the outside faces of the object. I also added a cross on the front of the model to give it more detail.

3 act story exercise

Explore genre styles and the structure of short film plots Assess standard screenwriting and storyboarding formats Demonstrate a clear understanding of short film concepts Evaluate relevance of historical and contemporary practices Document progress with reflective commentaries Storyboarding requires the artist to create the suggestion of movement through illustration, without creating much motion at all in the work. Use the 3-act structure to develop an idea based on the following: Jokes – find a joke or use your favourite (keep it clean) Flash Fiction – see ‘A Very Short Story’ by Ernest Hemingway or The Story of An Hour by Kate Chopin Inanimate objects – see Luxo or Fulfilament Write a piece of dialogue between two characters around an object in a room (a vase, a suitcase or box). The object becomes a real force of significance.   Story/animation ideas The characters are guarding a mysterious object that can only be awakened by an ancient phrase lost to the...

Analyzing Opening scenes

Opening Scenes What is a scene? What does the opening scene about the movie? What mood does it set? What techniques does it use to pull in the viewer? Make note how quickly we get know the following information, character, genre, world of the story, theme, situation. The blatant opening, the main character and film are introduced in the opening scene. In Rios case we understand that Blu is the main character from how much we see from his perspective, during the end of the sequence we are introduced to the poachers those disrupting the harmony of the scene. Regular day opening the audience is thrust into the lives of the main characters/character everyday life. In fantastic mister fox we understand that this is a regular day for the main characters through the dialogue and the way they act throughout the scene, acting very stilted stealing the pheasants and the dialogue said by mrs fox "If we get out of here I want you to find another line of work, again letting the audience know t...

Day 2 Designing a brochure

Image
Composition Making a Brochure We spent the lesson learning about composition by analyzing and creating brochures, to help us understand  composition and placement. During this lesson we created a rough draft of a brochure focusing on the composition and placement of text and images to make an appealing design. While the content itself at this stage doesn't matter to much what we are focusing on is where everything's  gonna go. From analyzing  the two brochures above I wanted to create one that incorporated  both style elements. I used the color form the tasty snacks  brochure and some of the design elements  from the other brochure trying to incorporate  the use of line and shape to help separate  different sections and parts.
